Me and some of my friends are looking to head down to Baja for our upcoming spring break. Any suggestions?

To get a usable answer, we need DETAILS! What are you driving (4WD?). What do you want to see or do (beach, mountains, desert, resorts, bars, fishing, photography, off roading, missions, petroglyphs, camping)? How much time do you have and where are you coming from?

I made a web page specifically so a traveler to Baja could see some of what's there (near several destination point) to help decide what looks interesting. It is mostly of beaches, historic sites, palm canyons in Baja California (norte) with some Baja California Sur images.

Have a look: Viva Baja Self Tour Photos

First off, we are coming from San Diego. We are looking to do some camping on a beach in a safe area! We will probably be bringing down dirt bikes/quads, so somewhere with good riding area is also a plus.

Do you have 4WD? If so, and don't need any services camp on Shell Island (Km. 26) between Percebu and Santa Maria (20 mi. so. of San Felipe) ... see photos in the link I gave you previously.

If no 4WD, then camp at Nuevo Mazatlan in the shade trees on a wide beach, Km. 32... cold showers, food at km. 35 Chelo's & Marina's cafes (good food). If you want more services and food in the camp, then go to Percebu (Rancho Percebu/ Laguna Percebu) around Km. 20

That sounds good. What are your thoughts of San Felipe? I had some buddies who said they brought a motorhome down there and stayed for about a week. He said there is little town with resturant/bars and some nice beaches.

San Felipe is a great, safe place to visit. South of town is beautiful. There are a ton of off-road trails, good fishing, & clean beaches. Downtown on the Malecon there are several great restaurants...Baja Mar, Taco Factory, Rositas, and many taco shops. There are also a couple fun bars...Bar Miramar, Beach Comber, & Rockadile. All-in-all lots to do & see in San Felipe.

More like a little city than a little town... Noise, dust, lot's of people... but all services, stores, restuarnts, bars... if that is your thing. I can't answer your follow-up because I would never camp in a city or busy place, as that is what I go to Baja to get away from!

For this specific trip lots of people and noise won't be a problem. But for future reference, is it always like that or just during spring break and other big american holidays? Isn't it a pretty quiet place most of the time?

Yes, it is 'quiet' except during Mexican and American vactions/ holidays. Really quiet in the summer after July 4th holiday!
