Update from Dave in LaPaz sent to BajaQuest Online ( www.bajaquest.com )

____________________________
I have some pics from La Paz if you would like. Rick has the best up date
for Mulege. All I know is what is being reported on our local net. There is
a lot of damage here. A lot of the docks were destroyed. Boats broke loose
and piled up. There are some missing, or sunk. Some were beached. Radio
reporting 5 dead in Baja Sur. All roads north and south are closed. I will
be checking today at the bus station. I did get a message from my in-law in
Loreto that the marina there is gone.

We had heavy rain and winds 60-80 knots.

Let me know and I will send some the photo I took during the storm.

I checked Marina La Paz. There are a lot of boats piled up but looking at them the damage is minor. Railings rigging and hull. Just a lot of banging together. There were some that sunk and floated off. The people can contact the marina for detail and a list of the boats. Some on the hard fell over also.

Here is some info I got from a fiend in Mulege(Ham).

Here's a detailed update on San Carlos, Sonora courtesty of Fred and Sue on Soujourn.

Hola, Roy!
Here's our report on boats/marinas in San Carlos:
MARINA SECA
Blue Moon (Tucson), Sun Ray, Glen David, all partly tipped over some damage
Inclination, (Garth's boat) possible damage to toe rail from Poca Loco tipping into her.
Poca Loco, Pacific Passage, Breita & Tashi, all slightly tipped or loose on stands, no damage.
Wandrin' Star is fine; Fred is sending a detailed email to 6Mike.
MARINA SAN CARLOS
2 docks broke loose on the marina office side, but guys from Gary's dive shop and marina staff dealt with them quickly, no damage to boats

Bahia San Carlos
The marina towed as many boats as they could into the marina, so only 8-10 were still out in the bay. Of those, Viva, Canta Mar, Toad & El Dorado all went on the rocks or the beach on the side toward Marina Real. Canta Mar is pushing up against Viva and holding her against the shore.
3 boats weathered the storm while still on mooring balls; one, Toru, dragged the mooring and 2 anchors across the bay, but stopped short of going on the beach.

Peak to Peak is on A-dock and is fine. We reported on the radio that this boat might be the one up against Viva, but happily she is not.

MARINA REAL -- DRY STORAGE
Poppy (a downeaster)is fully tipped over against the next boat; looks like some damage to both.
Dream Catcher is tipped also, hard to assess damage, but seems light.
Sea Bourn has lost its furling jib.
Sasi Lee, power boat, lost part of its bridge.

MARINA REAL -- MARINA
Sections of dock in various locations in the marina pulled loose and some ended up against the shore open the side opposite the banos (where docks 7 & 8 are). If there was damage to any boats as a result, it seems to be all cleared up.
Paloma Blanca lost her jib.
Scrimshaw has a damaged dinghy.
Nada Mas is fine, but her dodger is shredded and some other canvas is damaged.
The Farthing has a shredded jib and torn main sail cover.
Celtic Moon has a loose furling jib, but not jet torn.
Lone Star has a shredded jib and biminy
Nefre lost her mast and it took out the furler for the jib
Kokomo has a shredded dodger & one other cover
Priority has minor damage to a 2-step ladder for climbing onto the boat; all else is fine.
Kuilima is fine, one tarp is shredded.
Also, HIJINX is sunk in Puerto Escondido and divers are checking it out today.
more later..
