I just finished making a web page of our May, 2007 trip to Mision Santa Maria (est. 1767).

One of the toughest roads in Baja, requires 3 hours to go 14 miles... Beautiful oasis camp... Big Horn sheep visit us, too!

Enjoy: Mision Santa Maria 2007

Awesome! Awesome! Awesome! Thank you for sharing.

We are now seriously looking into planning a trip there right after Christmas, taking 6 eco friendly kids from the orphanage to camp for a couple of days. We'll be driving a Land Rover Discovery II and a Jeep Wrangler with a lift kit. Any words of wisdom are welcomed.

Awesome is the right word!

If you study the web page and LINKS to other trips there on the last page... You will be up to speed for the trip...

Since I posted the new web page link, it now is on my VivaBaja.com web site at http://vivabaja.com/msm Mision Santa Maria '07

Cool Thank you for sharing this wonderful trip. What a challenging road! I'd be interested to know if you had any flats and if not what kind of tires do you run? I'm glad to see the Sheep are still running. I have only heard of them via Arthur W. North(1901).

The tires on my Toyota the last trip to MSM were Cooper Discoverer STTs (a mud tire with 3 ply sidewalls). No flats, but I did see a gash in one of them after that trip that had me buying new tires, as they were not new anymore at 35,000 miles. I know run Toyo Open Country A/T, because the Cooper STTs were just too noisey.

My first four wheeled trip to the mission (in my truck) was in 2003, I was using Pep Boys Futura Dakotas (made by Cooper). See http://vivabaja.com/403 for that trip.
