I use to spend a lot of time in Baja 20 years ago. I want to spend a lot of time there in the near future. I wish to fish the remote parts of the pacific side from El Rosario down to Mag Bay. I would be often traveling alone with gear and kayaks. I've read thru numerous posts on these forums and it seems that Baja has taken a turn for the worse. The places I wish to go to are remote. What's up in Baja now? Thanks.
My wife and I have lived in San Felipe, Baja for 3.5 years. I have paddled a fair bit in the Sea of Cortez in recent years and on 2 previous expeditions 10 and 15 years ago, so I have a bit of a historical perspective. I find Baja to be safe and secure. The crime reports are hyped, but the actual rate of crime is low. One must apply the usual cautions for personal and equipment security as you would need to do anywhere. Overall, Baja is safe and the huge majority of it's residents are honorable, friendly and helpful. The Sea of Cortez remains a great paddling destination.
