I'll be spending a week in Loreto from 3/24>>>.
Would appreciate experienced suggestions from anyone who's eaten, snorkeled, clubbed, or just cruised the general area (50-75 miles out ).
Thanks, beach69

Its been a couple of years since I was there, and I've been twice - I think you'll love it.

Check this website for general info: http://www.loreto.com/

Restaurants - I like El nido Steakhouse - it even has a website - http://www.loreto.com/elnido/
Otherwise there are some really nice restaurants near the town square. Try the chocolata clams - they are delicious.

Snorkeling - try Arturo Sport - http://www.arturosport.com/
the islands are beautiful, with good snorkeling. They will set you up with a picnic lunch and the beach where they stop is amazing.

I think you'll struggle to find any clubs, but there are a few bars that are fun in town.

You DEFINITELY want to do the drive up to Mulege. Its a couple of hours drive each way, with a military checkpoint on the way - (nothing to worry about at all - just stop, smile then carry on). The beaches south of Mulege are STUNNING, and you don't want to miss them. You can hire a car in town, but if you want to relax you might want to get a taxi. It shouldn't cost that much, and you can have a few beers on the journey.

If you're flying in and get a taxi from the airport, don't be put off by the taxi fare (it might seem extortionate at first). The taxi drivers don't have much to do most of the time, and surcharging the airport run is one way they can make more money - plus of course the airport traffic is a captive audience. Otherwise the taxi fares were very reasonable when I was there.

Up near Mulege there are petroglyphs and cave paintings - worth a trip also. You can arrange this anywhere in Loreto.

Near Loreto there is an "oasis" garden which is quite fun - natural springs etc.

Have a great trip, and post a report here when you return!!!

Forget the clubs. My bud and I were the only ones in Mike's Bar in the center of town on a Saturday nite. Not much goin on unless there is a public celebration or fiesta of some sort in the plaza.

For seafood try La Terraza near the Cathedral.Another good restaurant Uvaldos is on site at Villas de Loreto on the south end of town.

Although Loreto is adjacent to a marine sanctuary the best snorkeling or diving is off the offshore islands such as Coronado. Dolphin or Cormorant dive shops will take you there.

Good luck
