with the recent reports of violence in baja I joined the forum to get some seasoned travelers advice. I am going to los barilles in april with a group of motorcycles. staying on the blacktop and overnighting at ensenada, guerro negro, mulege (la serenidad) los barilles, then back at loreto, catavina. hotels are booked (la pinta enroute, then hotel buena vista at los barilles. I need advice from recent[B]travlers as to the safety of the roads regarding violence. the group is 13 bikes and a truck. also wanted to know if there is gas in catavina currently. thanks. all input is appreciated.

Even though the Pemex pump in front of the hotel is closed, Alfonso and one other independent vendor has been selling gas from cans in Cataviña for about a dollar a gallon over the fixed Pemex price. Do top off in El Rosario, 76 miles before Caraviña.

Gas is also sold from cans at the turnoff to Bahia de los Angeles, about 60 miles from Cataviña. The next open Pemex is at Villa Jesus Maria, 60 miles south of the L.A. Bay turnoff... almost 200 miles south of El Rosario.

For more input, I would also post your questions on other Baja message boards.
