As of April 1st, Charry and Javier Tiznado are no longer at San Francisquito. Gone is the great food, hospitality and a clean facility.
The owner's son, Genaro, is now "managing" the place. Under this new management, palapas are rented by the cot ($20) not by palapa which means you may wake to a stranger beside you or he retains the right to move you out if another group can fill it. Dinners are $13, lunch $10, Breakfast $5. There were other changes but I am not sure if any of it was for the better.
I'm heading to San Francisquito soon--do you know what the camping arrangements are now? Last year was a fantastic experience, it sounds like things are taking a dive. Maybe I'll be looking for friendlier digs in the vicinity this year...
I was in San Francisquito in April with my 11 year old son and some friends, Howard and Chris. Kind of windy most of the time, but otherwise beautiful. Missed Charry and Javier. The food was fine. Josefina, Fermin's wife is now doing the cooking and the food was comparable to Charry's. She is not personable like Charry, though. Howard has been going to San Francisquito since the 70's and I have been going since the early 90's. The food is somewhat high in cost, but if you don't want to cook all the time, a welcome relief. They used to have a bar, and we are trying to talk Genaro into reopening it. He makes good margaritas. We are going again in June around the 19-20th of '03. A bit hot, but the fishing is great. They will rent pangas out for 1/2 day or full day. You can still camp for $5.00 per day per person. The bill was $540.00. Included one day on a boat, lots of meals, margaritas, cokes and camping for the four of us for 8 nights.
I went to San Francisquito the end of April. The flies were brutal. I thought that Genaro was great. Very friendly, personable and easy going. The resort itself was in the best shape I've seen. They have not suffered with the new managership. Great place!!!!
I have made two trips into San Francisquito this last week with another scheduled for Friday 6/6/03. We have a boat cruising the Mid Drifts and this was an ideal place to fly to for delivering and picking up guests. We put our King Air 350 into the dirt strip with no problem, a very well maintained dirt runway. The old paved one is not an option. Don't know anything about the other issues you all refer to, but our experience is very good. Our guests have eaten and drank at the local facility with good reviews. Great place to fly into.
