My wife and I are heading down next week for two weeks at San Ignacio and Muleje. Have 28' motorhome and jeep w/winch. First trip this far down and w/a MH. I understand about no night and slow driving, security, fuel, etc. & have been reading a couple of the Baja books and preparing.

Can anyone give me some suggestions regarding 'emergency' parts, etc. to take along?

Also, what about tire changing? I can't handle that big tire by myself so where do I go, what do I look for to get assistance for this on the road?

Thanks,
John

Any other suggestions or information would be appreciated and welcome.

The only comment I have is regarding tire repairs/changing... They are everywhere in Mexico along the highways... Sounds like you did your homework! Try to not stick to a schedule... just enjoy the time and see where events lead you. At each stop you can get ideas or advice on places to stay or visit. I have lot's of off-road side trips described in my web site list of trips... http://vivabaja.com

David,
Thanks for the response. Your web page is very interesting and I have only given it a brief look! Will spend more time there. The item about the 'lost lake' is very interesting. It looks to me that it, and some of the others, are actually indicated in the Baja Alminac. Small blue dashed lines. I took a look at an old copy of the Baja Explorer Atlas which has more detailed topo's. While there is no indication of a seasonal lake you can see where the Canada Tinaja El Caporal drains into a basin along with drainage from the north/north-west. Page B82.

From that map and B91 it looks like that basin in cut-off as far as drainage is concerned from La Pintada.

During the past 3000-12,000 years that lake was most surely permanent.......................? Interesting potential.

If your going to be around Mulege check out the
beaches south of town about 15 minutes, Playa Santispac is my favorite. You can rent kayaks and it has a good little place to eat called
Ray's Place. Have a great time, I cant get away
until the snow melts in Colorado.
