From AP:

Tropical Storm Julio formed off Mexico's Pacific coast on Saturday and was headed toward the Baja California Peninsula.

The storm was forecast to brush the west coast of the peninsula near Cabo San Lazaro on Monday morning, and make landfall Tuesday further north near Punto Abreojos.

Forecasters said Julio was not expected to become a hurricane. The storm packed maximum sustained winds of 40 mph (64 kph) and was centered on Saturday about 250 miles (405 kilometers) south-southeast of the tip of the Baja Peninsula, according to the National Hurricane Center in Miami.

"We think it's going to remain a tropical storm. There's not a zero chance of a hurricane but it's very small," said Richard Knabb, a senior hurricane specialist with the center.

A tropical storm watch was issued from Santa Fe on the west coast of the peninsula to Buenavista on the Gulf of California.

A watch means that tropical storm conditions are possible within 36 hours.

Julio was moving northwest at 12 mph (19 kph).

I recieved word that there has been some flooding in Mulege as a result of Hurricane Julio. From what I have been told Martin Martinez and his son Juan Calos had to be rescued by the army and firemen. I was also told that Teo and his family were stuck on top of their roof. This is directly across from the Ice House, on the Ice House road and to the left. Can any one verify the state of Mulege and it's people? I would appreciate any info!!!!!We too and many friends have properties in that area and a looking for ANY INFO. THANKYOU

Lots of details on the other Baja forums, as for further north, here is from the San Felipe web site this morning:

Tuesday 26 August, 5:14 a.m. The skies just opened up. It is pouring hard. All night thunderclouds overhead performed an opera of rythmic lightning; without the thunder. Heavy clouds completely cover the entire area so that even at this hour it is dark shattered with continuing lightning strikes. Strong winds clatter the venetian blinds on open windows, awakening the entire household. I can't wait to read the rain gauge when this lets up. My planned trip to San Diego is off for a couple of days.

5:38 a.m. the electrical power is tripping..bad on electrical equipment. The wind has calmed some and rain is slowing for a bit but it is still dark under these heavy clouds. There is a little thunder out there. I shall now watch this show from my patio.

6:13 a.m.Daylight: The rain has stopped. Finally it is clearing. We can now check the rain-gauge which showed a whopping .4 inch of rain water. The clouds are moving around now; still heavily covered skies. The wind has absolutely stilled in the last 1/2 hour. And now we can see the water, but with no sunrise reflecting on it's calm surface. The ground is soaked with puddles everywhere. And all this happened in one early morning hour.(st)

Yesterday's Max96 F, Min 83 F. Temperature currently 82.4 Humidity currently 64%.

Jan, the high-water mark yesterday was 62.5 inches below that of Hurricane John. I don't know about the Serenidad but the Oasis, Orchard and Maria Isabel's had roughly five feet of water.

John, Check your e-mail. Hugo is fine and cleaning up the lower floor. Water was 7' deep at his house in the Orchard so it didn't flood the upstairs. He will call you tonight.
