Have you checked out the link on the bottom of "David K's" posts. He has a couple of good links with pictures of the area. Apparently, there is a PEMEX station, but don't know if they have diesel. What is the nearest stop for fuel prior to this? Otherwise, the area looks good and should be a little more secluded than Mulege or LaPaz. Unfortunately, being the most heavily beach camping week of the year, I don't think we are going to be able to completely avoid a crowd. My guess is that the town is small, the beach is big, so driving to the farthest point (punta la gringa) where we have to pay is our best chance of not being run out by the locals. My only real concern is that I am finding a lot of info about how windy it is in that area and how the fishing during that time of year is still fairly slow. We can hope for a spring run of yellowtail, otherwise we are looking at bottom fish.

PS Don't buy a Ragen..."RAG" en

Thanks David,
Knowing there is diesel in the area is reasuring. We have a couple of Zodiacs and like to spear fish. Do you have a secret spots (that of course would not be secret anymore if you reply on this posting) for diving in the area? Catching fish being first priority, but recomendations on just a cool spot to check out would be nice as well. Also, do you think Punta la Gringo the best bet for beach camping during this time?

Any and all comments welcome. Thanks in advance, Gene

Concerning spearfishing - can't reveal my ultimate secrete spots - but for a newcomer to the area - try Coronadito - just north of the volcano island and the entire north side of the volcano from there - if your boats are large enought to get to La Guarda - any place is good!!!

A few of us are teachers and get the spring break week off. We have driven to La Ventana during the summer, when we had more time. Our usual spring break spot is Mulege, but some of us wanted to try something new. Not to mention, the desire to spend less time driving and more time diving. This is why we are considering LA Bay. Another posible choice we are concidering is San Quintin. It is closer and we have never stayed there either. It seems like the fishing is comparable for that time period, perhaps with a little less wind. If you had the choice, which place would you choose? Is LA Bay worth the little extra drive?

By the way, we are taking kids and family. So, we have to take into consideration those who are not fishing/diving and there enjoyment of the area...sort of.
