I am staying at Villa Bahia in early May. Anybody know how the beach diving is around Villa Bahia? Anything interesting or should I just rent a panga and head for the islands?

Actually, any beach diving locations in the bay would be appreciated.

There is a nice patchy reef near the cemetary. Best times to dive are in late July, August, and early September. You will see damsels, sargeant majors, triggerfish, ladyfish, bullseye stingrays, and if your lucky you will be surrounded by large schools of Mackerals towards the deep end of the reef.
One of my favorite spots to beach dive is over in Punta la Gringa which is located several miles north of the lighthouse. It's a nice rocky cove that is teaming with fish. Here you will see all of the already mentioned + small groupers, and juevenile yellowtails.
