We have been down to San Quintin Bay many times, but never to the Sea Of Cortez side. Would it make sense to use a free week we have at the end of July, and go with the children and the dog to Bahia de los Angeles.
We are concerned about the heat.
Are there any shady campgrounds where the heat would be bearable?

It's hot, but with the right precautions you'll have a great time. Campo Gecko has great campsites, but he may be all booked up.

It will be hot.
It will not be too difficult to find a place to camp, even with a palapa. The camping places may not be monitored by the end of this month. Many places to camp in Baha and Bay LA are fairly loose about regulations.
You might consider bringing your own shade tarp set up. The more self contained you are, the more your options will expand.
