Hey diving aficionado's, Is June a good time for diving/snorkeling in Bay of LA? Where can I find a fish species list for Bay of LA? I want to take a group of folks down there. How does it compare to Bay of Conception. I have stayed in Mulege and spent time with a guide in Bay of Conception in early October and it was great. June is when we want to go to Bay of LA, because there will be reptile specialists with the group. Can you help me out?

Thanx,

Jerry Hartley

Hello Jerry,
I dove down there several years ago and the warm months are good. I had about 50 feet of viz and lots of fish. I did shore dives, but if you can get a panga captain to take you to a good area by the islands, it would be better. You will have a great time. As it gets later in the year you will also spot whales. Blow bubbles and have a great time. I plan to go there next year. KEN

Best bet is to go with a local who knows the good sites. Generally further offshore (midriff area)the better. Plenty of 5 star sites (Baja scale) but you gotta know where to go, including once you're under. Check out www.scubabaja.com Ricardo is only local guide who will dive with you. Big fast pangas, reliable air, and good eyes. Frogfish, seahorses, monster grouper, rare nudibranches, lush gorgonians - it's all there but again, Ricardo is key. Think the good sites rival or surpass Loreto/La Paz. Good luck.
