hello there! i hope somebody have a few good tips to spare for me. i have a 3-day weekend in february and i would love to go whale watching in baja. i live in los angeles and i will be driving there. no, no planes, budget is tight. because i would love to go to Guerrero Negro or the San Ingacio Lagoon, but they are too far away.

so my question is: how is whale watching in Ensenada? Is it worth it? Are there other whale watching spots between ensenada and cabo san quintin? i have ONLY 3 days and don't want to spen the whole time in the car, but i'd also like to know whether or not Ensenada is worth the whale watching trip.

THANKS A BUNCH in advance to whoever will be so kind to respond!!

From Ensenada there isn't much to see since the whales are traveling south and do not really stop for the tourists. YOu can sometimes see them from the toll road but they are far away. The best would be to go and drive to GN and get on a panga for a much closer look. It would be so worth it then to go to ensenada.
If that is not an option then yes you can see some whales if you are lucky and don't mind getting sea sick.
If you drive be careful at night and be carefull by San Quintin. I hate that part of the road cause there are some slow drivers and really bad drivers. That part has been populated and the road is still the small so prepare to go very slow and there are alot of trucks working there. At night be carefull cause these trucks may not have lights on and you can't see them also if you drive early morning there are alot of school bus's taking people to work and they really suck.
Good luck and maybe I will see you down there. I am also planning a trip next month to see the whales.

Might I suggest staying at the at the Old Mill in San Quintin, south of Ensenada. Good accomodations, reasonable prices. You might have some luck in getting a ride on a fishing boat for some close up action

I have seen whales inside San Quintin bay while kayaking. Probably your best bet if it has to be in Baja. Still, it will not even come close to comparing with San Ignacio...
