I would greatly appreciate any updates on the eastern side. I was that way back in Feb (2009) the road was paved to Puertocito. Does anyone know if the paving has extended more south? To where abouts? Final destination is Bay of LA but I will go the Pacific route if need be. Thanks a bunch. ~B
Latest report is pavement has reached 14 miles from Puertecitos and new road bed a bit further. However, there is still 30 some miles of very rocky roadbed to Gonzaga Bay that will really slow you down, and don't try it in a camper or low car. Gonzaga to Hwy. 1 (36 miles) is a much better graded dirt road and get maintained.
Thank you both very much for the info. We did make that trek through, what some call "the sisters" north of Gonzaga Bay ... not my favorite thing to do. I think we will stick with the Pacific route. Thanks again. ~B
Went down the Hwy 1 to Bay of LA. We are going to try the Sea of Cortez route on our way out. I will update how that goes- should be back by mid-Jan. ~B
