I'd like to take my Berkeley family on a trip to Baja between Christmas and New Year. The family: parents + kids: 11, 19, 22, 25 + an Italian boyfriend, 25. We won't have a lot of time. Should we fly in? Where? Drive? Where can we stay? Nothing fancy...would love to be able to cook. Could we rent a simple house for shorter than a week? The guys like fishing. Is camping an option? I've read great things about Muleje? Is it warm at the end of December? I speak Spanish fairly well; have lived in Spain, but I've only had one, not so good, experience in extremely touristy Puerto Vallarta. Any advice greatly appreciated!!!

We are also from the Bay Area and are planning a family trip to Mulege for a week. Our kids are quite a bit younger than yours. I have made numerous trips to Baja, but this will be the first family trip. Baja is a beautiful, if desolate, place. At this time of year, most would suggest going over to the Sea of Cortez side. The weather is warmer. We will be driving. One week for driving the other week for lounging in Mulege.

With such limited time, flying is really your only option. For Mulege you would fly into Loreto and rent a car. There are many great places to camp all along the baja. You could also fly into La Paz. You would have, I would think, more choices for accomodations, camping, renting a house, etc. Fishing is just as good if not better than Mulege and the flight is probably less expensive as there is more demand.

With your continental exposure, you might enjoy the more historic villages and towns of the southern peninsula more. Whi;e many of us love the central desert, it is desolate, as Family Guy says. We lived in Spain for a time also, just up the hill from Malaga and Torremolinos, in Benalmadena-pueblo. Regardless, have a wonderful trip. Write some wonderful experiences so we can share with your family.

Gracias! It now looks like we'll have a week. I'e heard great things about Todos Santos. Do you happen to know of any accommodations? Very modest are fine with us...but we do like to cook. Would we fly to Cabo? Cheap airlines?
It's probably time to get tickets right now. If I do, could I trust to find a place to stay? - Ojala!??
What about places not that far from Tijuana? Warm at Christmas time? Too close to the border to be 'Real Mexico'?

...thanks again...sirpa
