There is some confusion regarding needing to make a deposit for cars when entering Baja? Last time we just got Mexican Insurance and a visa/tourist card at the Border. Has it gotten more complicated than that? The truck is owned by the driver.
Thanks |

No , you do not need make any car deposit.
If you are leaving the car in Mx. you might want to take more steps but not just to travel in it to Baja & back. |

As far as I know there is a zone along the border with USA of 25 miles include any border city, where you can have a USA car while the plates and registration are current.
Also the whole land of Baja, that means from Tijuana Baja North to Cabo San Lucas Baja South works the same way as a Border Zone, until the licence plates and registration are current, and the vehicle aren't under stolen report, and the driver have driver licence, no problem. If you want to leave the car after plates and registration expire, either you need to IMPORT TO MEXICO or park the car and not use or sell. |

As o a couple of years ago all of Baja is a tourist zone.
You do not need to import a vehicle. Good luck, G. www.GPSProjectManagement.com |

Baja has ALWAYS been different than mainland Mexico... at least since the 1960's when I began going south... NO CAR PERMIT ever needed unless you took the ferry to the mainland, then get it at the ferry terminal in La Paz or Santa Rosalia.

Do you have an FM-3 or FM-2 visa? Otherwise as a tourist (FMM tourist card holder) you cannot leave any personal property in Mexico when you return home at the end of your vacation. |

FMM tourist visa makes you legal in Baja north or South States.
You must obtain a FMM every 6-months Park you car at your mex. house you are legal and have rights. If you stay in baja more than 6--8 months, it is advise by the El Dorado Ranch attorny`s to obtain a FM-3 |

If you have a FM-3 , FM-2 or FMM and park your car on the street, it may not be there when you get back
