Can anyone tell me if it is possible to drive from San Carlos to Puerto Catarina off road either on the beach or is there a trail somewhere? I have a Jeep Rubicon and am trying to drive from El Rosario to Guerrero Negro off road. The topo map shows the road ending at San Carlos with no trails connecting to get to Puerto Catarina. PLEASE HELP!

i've touring that zone for the las two months, and there are marked roads on The Baja Almanac, but most of them are washed off or blocked by rocks or landslides.

i own a '92 wrangler, and even in this car we have to reconsider part of that route.

in case youre brave enough to try it, be prepared with a set of tires that can handle sharp rocks, sand, VERY sharp roots and lots of abuse [i recommend yokohama Geolandars], a full kit for on-the-road repairs (flat tires, engine belts, electric fuses, etcetera). plenty of fuel since there are no service stations, and almost no human presence along the route.

theres a road from El Rosario to Punta San Carlos and it ends there. theres no other way to get from there to Puerto Catarina. go back to MX-1 and enter the road to Catarina, go to Punta Canoas and from there you can go south nearly to Santa Rosalillita, but still is a very nasty road.

last month (june)we noticed heavy presence of mexican military personnel, that can came out of nowhere and demand to search your vehicle for guns or drugs (so carry non of both).

on the other hand, be prepared for some spectacular views form the mountain to the ocean, forests of boojum trees, cardons and
be careful with the wildlife: there are plenty of coyotes, hares, rabbits, snakes, RATTLESNAKES, deer, eagles, and a thousand of other magnificent creatures.
