Which Baja city has the best combination of:

1) good broadband service
2) good phone service
3) inexpensive cost of living
4) quiet

Also, is the entire area desert?

Thanks

If you want #3 & 4, then the others will need to be from Satellite... Very common for people to use in remote areas of Baja.

No, the area is not all desert.
The northwest is the same climate as Southern California... just gets drier the further south you travel. Have you traveled about San Diego County?

The mountains between Ensenada and San Felipe get snow and are covered with pine forests. About 200 miles south (beyond San Quintin) the 'desert-like' climate crosses over from the east coast of the peninsula. Tropical vegetation begins in the oasis villages of southern Baja and in many areas beyond La Paz to the tip (Cabo San Lucas) which is inside the Tropic of Cancer... about the same latitude as Hawaii.

Don't even think of moving to Baja without spending considerable time there to experience places that may interest you and has the 'quiet' that you seek.

By the way, you cannot just move to Mexico without obtaining the correct visa (FM-3) and depositing money in a Mexican bank and/ or showing proof of income source in the states.

As I say, check it out in great detail... Use the Internet and read other message boards, some with tons of details on living in Mexico!

I understand that there is wireless broadband service offered by Baja Wireless/WiFi-CityWide. Any idea what that would cost?

Also, I was under the impression that if you come back to the states every six months, you don't any special Visa.

I would never move to Baja without checking it out. But, I have to start somewhere. I have been to Guadalajara and Puerto Vallarta.

It seems to me that Guadalajara would be the easiest place to get broadband.

A tourist card is for a tourist... a person visiting Mexico on a vacation.

Somebody who maintains property some place in Mexico and lives there part or full time is not a tourist and will need a resident visa (FM-3). You cannot even leave any property in Mexico when you leave (like a quad, car, clothes, trailer, house) if you don't have an FM-3 or -2.
