We're planning a drive to East Cape in May. Does anyone know what kind of documentation is required for the family dog? Is there a stateside source for a permit? A friend of mine told me the following story:

I have a friend in Cabo that use to bring their dog across about 3 times a year until they moved to Cabo. Once at one of the stops, Guerrero Negro, they had agriculture and customes inspectors and the dog was taken to quarantine because they had not gotten a permit for the dog. I was told that the same goes for a dog or cat as a person when traveling past Ensenada. They need a permit or visa. Those people had to stay in Guerrero for three days to pay a fine and get a permit for the dog.

Thanks in advance!!!

I have travelled in the Baja many times and I was told that all I needed was and International health certificate. You can get that at your Vet's office for a fee.

I to have been up and down the "Peninsula" (too many times to remember with my dog/s). I have never had a problem. But . . . you should have the International Certificate to be on the safe side.

If the authorities are giving foreign travelers with pets (dogs) a hassle, then its just harassment or . . . mordita.

Anyone who has problems should always post their experiences (first-hand) on ALL the Baja Bulletin Boards.
