Many US Citizens are reporting being shaken down by police in Ciudad Constitution. Please read posts on Baja ***** forum.

I have decided that this is bad enough to not go further south than Guerro Negro.

Are others experiencing this same treatment in Ciudad Constitution? I had hoped to stay there again at Manfred's and fish with a local guide. I will not do so unless this is resolved. I also know of caravan that is not going to go south this year to La Paz due to this happening.

It is also happening in Mexicali. No violations but he will try to get the money from you for speeding , dog not secured in(seat belt) , stop signs etc. When you say police station he loses you on the way.So respecting the law is not the answer there anyway. This has happened to several people coming & going thru Mexicali t & from San Felipe.

It is also happening in Sonoma County and all parts of California! as a way (many of us have decided) to raise much needed revenue to keep everyone in office....no seat belt tickets for pets yet tho

I am a US citezen, Retired from LA county been coming to baja for 30+ years. Living permently 8 years, go to san diego every other week. Drive down as far as san quintin regularly for fishing. I agree if you abide by the Law you wont have any problems. No different than in the USA. Actualy much better. You need to follow the Law. Seat belts is the law in mexico, so is running stop signs and red lights. To many people think that in mexico you can get away with what ever you want. Not true. If you did something wrong pay the piper. If you didnt, go follow the cop to the station and plee your case, Most of the time the cop will vere away and forget about you, or the judge at the station will reduce the fine... The USA is going crazy with red light cameras, cops on every corner, DUI check point and so on. Example I was going 70 in a 45 zone, Between the mirador and ensenada. was pulled over legit for speeding. This cost me 200 pesos (18 dolars). And I was done. In the USA this ticket would have been 200+ dolars trafic school and a point on your licence, plus a Negetive on your insurance. If I did something wrong I would much rathere pay the piper in Mexico Than in the USA. Having a Dog ( I have 7) un-secured is also a NO NO in the USA. I can understand the issue. I was pulled over in california for having a 3rd person sitting in the center counsel. The cop said it was obsructing my rear view...If you get pulled over in Mexico for not having your seat belt on Well ( what where you thinking) You should get a ticket...There is over a querter million people that cross the border daily. Ask your self why would they single you out? Follow the LAw, be safe and come on down to baja. ITS GREAT!
