I have traveled up and down the peninsula numerous of times in a vehicle although in July it will be my first time pulling a 26 foot trailer. Is there anything I should know or have?
just be careful when large trucks come opposite you, make sure you have mirror clearance, last time down a lg truck and trailor clipped my mirror and it exploded into a million parts, driving with no side mirror is no fun, get over or better pull yours in when you pass
I pull a 23' boat down to BCS and to start with there is NO ROOM to pull over. In 90 percent of the areas, if you place your left trailer tires 3" from the center line your right tires will be 3" from the white line (paint to paint). If you vary from that you will drop your right side tires off the pavement with a drop of 6" - 600 feet. When large trucks approach (also driving paint to paint) make a quick check of your left trailer tires (keep your mirrors adjusted to accomplich this) and set your tire 3" inside of the yellow line, quickly check the right side to see if you can offer any more room and then hold your position! The truck will have done the same thing and you pass without problems. Trust me, it gets easy in no time.
Carry a spare tire for your trailer and preferrably 2 and whatever is needed (tools and ability) to change them. Do not run passenger tires on a trailer (P series, ie; P235. Only use speciffically designed trailer tires, ST series and preferrably 10 ply).
