Hi,

A bunch of us (8-12 people) are planning a trip to Puertocitos and Bahia San Luis Ganzaga for early May.

Since all the rain, we need to know the Road Conditions that area.

Please advise ASAP for our planning.

Thanks a bunch,

Craig C.

PS: is it any better/shorter to come back from Hiway 1 to Bahia San Luis Ganzaga and work our way back to San Felipe?

I'm looking for the absolute latest road conditions from Puertocitos to Ganzaga Bay. After all the rain in the last couple of months, things may have changed significantly.

All advice is appreciated.

Best,

Craig C.

I drove the road yesterday. The road has not changed from the storms. I saw everything from dune buggy's to Honda Civics on the road, but I wouldn't advise it in a passenger car. Be prepared for flat tires, carry spares and/or tire sealant. If you don't have to use them great...Stop and say hi to Coco. In my opinion, the road is the worst from Gonzaga to Puertecitos....Gary

Just did that drive. From Puertocetos to Gonzaga bay the road is very rough and rocky. Unless you have a durable rig with heavy tires, expect stuff to rattle loose or go flat.
From Gonzaga to Hiway one is generally better as it is more sandy and less rocky for much of the way. Going back to San Felipe from LA bay on route 1 to route 3 and then E. over to route 5 took a bit longer, but you still have the fillings in your teeth upon arrival. That road is narrow and the trucks drive it very fast.
Either way you go, lace your tennies up tight.

I drove to Puertocitas after the storms. It is fairly fast driving (55) until about four miles north of Puertocitas, then washboard. Drop you air to about 20 psi, and then proceed. I haven't been past Puertocitas, but I figure that with your air out, you still can get to Gonzaga travelling 20-30 mph. Just watch for sharp rocks in the Chocolate mountain range. We just didn't have the intense rains up here that they had in Mulege. Good luck and have fun!
