Hola... would appreciate any info on road conditions down highway 1; particularly in Baja California Sur, along John's path. I'm hopeful to drive down to my home in Loreto tomorrow, but concerned about road closures and availability of gas.
Gracias,
Steve

Hola,

Just spoke to a friend who lives in Loreto by the La Pinta... things are drying up (and actually getting dusty already). It rained an incredible amount, but winds likely did not exceed 40 mph during the storm.
Obviously no traffic coming from the north or south and grocery stores getting a little thin. No water, but electricty working, and telephone has just obviously returned (along with the internet).
We are still planning to head south when road conditions allow. Please let us know if we can bring anything south, particularly to Mulege or other hard hit areas.
Adios,
Steve

The first vehicles are now entering Loreto from up north (from friends in town and Discover Baja).

Current info says a big boulder on the Santa Rosalia Grade is blocking semis, but smaller vehicles can get around it. There is damage to the highway from Santa Rosalia to Mulege, then more to Loreto.

The director of the SCT, José Antonio Ramírez Gómez, announced this morning that the road is now open all the way to Tijuana. He says that drivers should exercise great caution in several areas, especially Kilometer 15 of the road between Insurgentes and Loreto where there was major damage. He warns that drivers must be careful because there are over 500 people working to repair damages in different parts of the road and there is lots of heavy machinery. Gas is available all the way up. Also all the ferry service has been resumed despite the heavy damages to the piers in Santa Rosalia and Pichilingue.

Talked to mom in CHIVATO. Buy satalite. Supplies ok for now. Road is tough. Don't want to chance any voyages to Hwy1. Supplies ok at this time but feeling some helplessness for those, family in Mulege and St. Rose..... Still worried, mom makes it sound ok. Mulege is on her mind. How is the runway at CHIVATO? Maybe besides in Loreto supplies can be delivered to via Punta CHIVATO to MULEGE. My heart is out to Peter's Mum and daughters and to my family in ST. Rosa and Mulege

RED CROSS..... Military....... Vaccines for the msqts. Donations!!!!! Yes!!!! Want to help in person with supplies.

I ARRIVED IN SANTA ROSALIA LAST NITE, WED, AT 8 PM. THE MOUNTAIN PASS DESERVES IT'S NAME "INFERNO". ONE LANE AT SEVERAL PLACES BUT PASSABLE.
I MADE THE TRIP TODAY TO MULEGE TO TAKE PHOTOS. IT IS MUCH WORSE THAN I HAD ANTICIPATED. THE MUD IS SO DEEP IN PLACES IT WILL BE HARD TO REBUILD.

CFE, THE ELECTRIC CO., IS WORKING IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE GUERRERO NEGRO DIVISION TO RESTORE POWER.

FOOD PACKAGES ARE BEING DISTRIBUTED.

SOME PARTS OF THE TOWN HAD WATER AVAILABLE.

CHECK OUT MY WEBSITE FOR UPCOMING PHOTOS.
