If you have everything in order and cross at TJ at approx. 5:00 a.m. you could make Gurreo Negro(sp) by dark 'day one' [don't drive at night]. If road or traffic problems slow progress stop in Cativina(sp) [only one hotel here]{as you are traveling by car I am assuming you are not going to be camping}. Next day you shoud be able to make Contitution(s) again if travel is slower than schedule stop in Loreto as I'm not sure if Insurjenta(sp) has hotel???
****Reason for not traveling at night, trucks travel a lot at night and they figure their the only ones out there and they cut corners a LOT. And there are a LOT of blind corners on that road. Reason # 2 - the whole road is open range -- live stock on the road all over. If you have never driven this road before try NOT to sight-see as you drive, the road is very unforgiving of not paying attention. In most parts of the road there are NO shoulders, where the pavement ends it DROPS sometimes as much as 6". The road is narrow (narrower than most country roads in US)[an this is the MAIN/ONLY highway]. Figure you will be driving most of the time 45 to 55 mph. Saving an hr. driving faster can cost you EVERYTHING. Crossing at Tecate is the way I cross but the boarder opens at 6 (I think) and the road is a little slower if you are just trying to cover ground. If you slow down and stop often you will get the REAL feel of Baja - which is the land you will be traveling through and the WONDERFUL PEOPLE of Baja |
