Just completed the trip down and up. The road was in great shape, only a few slow downs and one or two construction areas. The few vados that are still rough are not that bad at all, and the ongoing construction takes no time to navigate. There are alot of animals along the road in the south due to the green lushness left over from the hurricanes, mostly cows and we saw some great horse and donkey shows as well. I was amazed at the great condition of the road after the last time I drove it, and the steady availability of gas. The station at Catavina was closed on the 15th when we went through, but we made it to the next pemex without any trouble going north, it may have been a problem going south. La Pinta hotels were very very good to us, we bought a pass from thier web site, lapintahotels.com
and we were treated to the best rooms and dolphins out our door in Loreto. The only great complaint I have was the confusion in TJ as to where the border crossing is now, they are directing traffic to Otay and that is a great pain, find your way to the original HWY5 crossing and life will be better. Cabo was well signed and we recommend the small boats from the southernmost dock (next to the cruise ship tender landing) to rent out to Lands End and the sea lions (next to the arch) Have fun and don't worry about the roads, just drive a little slower than 75mph and you'll be fine. Drove down Oct 2-7, drove back Oct 13-15. |
