What are the present conditions of the road south of Puertocitos to Hwy 1. I was told the road is being paved. Is that true? I will be going down the road in mid October with a Ford Econline van with Kayaks on top. I read the February 14th road report but I'm hoping the road is better now. I'm assuming the road is pretty good from San Felipe.

The road from San Felipe to Puertocitos has been re-paved. Good shape but watch out at the Vados! They are quite sharp dips & already showing signs of vehicles bottomimg out & hitches scrapeing. I have heard nothing about road south from there getting any work except surveying so far.

Yes, new pavement to Puertecitos... However, south of Puertecitos is very rocky beginning about 8 miles south and continues very bad for about 40 more miles to Bahia San Luis Gonzaga.

Gonzaga on to Hwy. 1 (36 miles) is much better.

4WD is not needed, but low cars should avoid... No mohos or trailers IMO.

having driven this road many times over the years since my first transit in '98, i can say that it was the WORST i have ever seen it in june '07. much worse than ever before.

once in march ('02 maybe??? but not sure) it had just been graded and was silky smooth, but that was then and this is now...and now aint pretty.

avoid it if ya can til they grade it, but we might take it north again in june cuz it is the easiest way when heading to colorado and we love gonzaga bay.
