I have watched and seen by air the work on a toll road from Tecate to Rosarito. Living in the East county of SD I'll do anything to avoid the border at TJ and always return through Tecate. Anyone have any info on when this road will be completed? Mex 2 from Ensenada to Tecate is getting very crowded due to all the wineries-which are cool, but not fun when you're just trying to get home.

There is a web site showing a map of the new road. I do not believe it is a toll highway. It also does not go to Tecate, but closer to Otay from Popotla, just south of Rosarito (near Fox Baja Studios).

The Tecate to Ensenada road is Mexico #3, by the way.

I've taken the road from Rosarito to Tecate several times already. It's great and so far, no tolls. The first time I took it, I only saw one other car...kinda spooky...but made it to Otay then Tecate with no problems...I saved a lot of time crossing in Tecate also...
