Word I've read is it is passible with 2 wheel drive. washboards and a strech of rocky. Long, slow trip. Make sure you have gas, tirepatch kit for rocky area and small compressor or a good spare.

I also hope to travel that road - spoke to a chap in San Felipe in Feb 03 - he had travelled it 4x ( 2 returns) and said rough but no problem. He suggested two days for a one way trip. Others said forget it but he was the only one that I met who had actually made the trip. He drove a 4x4 truck.....

On the lighter side, I used to own a Mercedes 300CD Coupe. Using that car, it took me 8-10 hours to get to Puetocitos from Long Beach, CA. It then took me another one hour to drive the next five miles. So, almost any vehicle can drive it but it might take a while at five miles per hour. And it did not hurt the car and I had no flat tires.

I posted a question on the main board about this, but nobody seems to be reading it. Not a lot of people want to bicycle Baja.

How do you think this road would be on a bicycle?

Hey! Anyone heading down to Gonzaga this weekend?

We have travelled the road twice in the past 2 years (in sept/oct months). From San Felipe to G-Bay, in a high-clearance truck, it takes between 2-2 1/2 hours - without stops!

We're driving it this Thursday and have a 4-vehicle caravan (all SUVs and trucks) but I expect the trip to easily double just because of the # of people.

I'll write when we're back to mention if the road is any worse from recent tropical storms than it has been in recent years.
