Hi! I suggest Mexican insurance (www.igib.com will sell you liability only, no medical, insurance). Also use the main highway (#1) and make sure he has plenty of water. Take along a first aid kit and wear thick boots. Don't be showy or aggresive looking. Carry candy-for kids. I suggest he call every day to tell somebody where he is and keep to a scheduale. Personally, I'd take you with me or go with someone. Good luck!
I've been living down in South Baja for 5 years, and have a Harley. I just moved back to the U.S. It's fairly safe. The roads can get rough. Not all gas stations have premium gas. While he'll probably be ok, I wouldn't advise traveling alone. Also, some towns give tickets for riding without a helmet, and some don't. Bad things do happen sometimes. See this following story. http://www.qrz.com/cgi-bin/ikonboard.cgi?s=405b75d70a08ffff;act=ST;f=3;t=55742
There's pretty decent motorcycle dealerships with service for Honda in La Paz and Cabo, and a Harley dealer with Service in Cabo that's also pretty good...but you have to wait on parts usually...

Thanks for the reply's .I know I'm not happy about this trip but what's a wife to do. I can only supply him with the best infromation I can!!
I've done the trip many times and am here to write about it. It's a two lane road, lotsa truck traffic and it's thru some very harsh desert. Be prepared with water and some light cover for breakdowns, I don't drive at night if I don't have too. (animals in the road bigger than your bike!) Other than that not much different than driving up to Mamouth Mountain on 395. There is one spot south of Santa Rosilia to Catavina that there are no gas station. He should have a great time.
I drive the Baja every winter. Leaving the 1st of November for San Jose in My Westie. Crossing into Mexico by November 3. Next year it will be on the Yamaha. Worry about nothing. The road is great, the people very friendly and helpful, the weather fantastic, and the big sky of the Baja absolutely marvellous. The longest haul without a gas station is from El Rosario to Jesus Maria. You can always buy gas from the roadside vendors. Good luck and have fun - that is what all of this is about. Brian
PM sent regarding gas between El Rosario and Villa Jesus Maria. Thanks, John
