I am coming to Punta Chivato with 14 women friends next Thursday Sept 21st. As we will fly in, we each have 50lbs (if we only bring a very little for ourselves, we will have about 30lbs x 15 = 450 lbs available)that we can bring urgent needs or impossible to get items. The women are all willing to bring whatever is necessary or helpful to any and all of you. Please let us know what specific things we can bring for you. We have heard insect repellent, underwear, daipers, mosquito nets, blankets etc. WHAT DO YOU REALLY NEED?
Kid clothes, towels, sheets for sure. Bandages and antiseptic also for sure. Library book donations (en espanol) if you have 'em. Pack the soft stuff in Space Bags or plastic compactor bags & suck out the air for optimal packing and for durability; garbage bag packing starts to come apart after a few handlings. Deliver first two to the Bomberos, books to the Trabajadora Social at the Secudaria school uphill from icehouse road.
CHILDRENS CLOTHING, SHOES, BEDDING, SWEATERS/SWEATSHIRTS= KIDS & ADULTS, AS IT STARTING TO GET CHILLY NIGHTS. TALKED WITH LOCAL DOC. AND SHE SUGGESTED ALCOHOL AS DISINFECDTANT, AS HYDROGEN PEROXIDE NEEDS TO BE KEPT COOL, WHICH IS NOT GOING TO HAPPEN DOWN THERE. MEDICAL SUPPLIES SHOULD GO DIRECT TO HOSPITAL. OTHER SUPPLIES TO BOMBEROS, OR WENDY AT VILLA DE CLAIR. SHE WILL SEE THAT THOSE WHO ARE MOST IN NEED GET THE AID. IS PUNTA CHIVADO HABITABLE?
Medical supplies should be given directly to the Centro de Salud. Other donations should be delivered to the Bomberos or directly to the old Mission Church. There have been reports of private individuals receiving and distributing donations according to their discretion. The authorities, both local and federal, have stated in public meeting that they do not want this to occur. There are appropriate channels in place by which aid is being given. Please respect the Mexican civil agencies and make sure that your contributions are given to the appropriate Mexican agency, not to any single individual.
