Tropical Storm Julio hit Mulege Sunday around noon and started dumping rain off and on throughout Sunday afternoon. We got just under a half an inch of rain Sunday afternoon and winds up to only about 15 mph. It rained all day Monday until about 4 pm. There were two main cells of rain that hit us on Monday. A small one hit around 4 in the morning and a HUGE one hit between 10 and noon. That one dumped about 2 inches of rain per hour. It was a real frog strangler- relatively speaking of course. We got 5.94" of rain on Monday according to my weather station and 6.18 inches for the storm. You can look at the charts if you want. Click on : http://www.wunderground.com/weatherstation/WXDailyHistory.asp?ID=IBCSMULE1

The river started rising early this morning (Monday) and crested about 3:30 pm at a height about 6 feet short of the level that Hurricane John hit two years ago. This level was measured at my house so you can take it to the bank. This means that if you did not get about six feet of water in your house during John, you are dry today. I did take a few pictures but only at our house so they won't do anyone else any real good.

We lost power early this morning (Monday) but my emergency generator kept the weather station on the air throughout the event. Things are still hectic here but I can try to fit in some responses to e-mails if they are IMPORTANT. Please, however, don't ask me to go check your home. I just don't have that kind of time right now. Maybe in a day or three.

I heard from my husband and his father today, Bob and Hank Tussy. They have been down fishing with friends. The Tussy casa in the Oasis park had water coming in the door this afternoon and they escaped out the back. No word besides that everyone is OK and looking for a place to spend the night. Not sure yet how much water is in the house.

For what it's worth, the high waster mark was a measured 62.5 inches below that of Hurricane John. The river did not rise overnight and has receded back to near normal levels as of this morning (Tuesday).

Spoke to Raphael Cuesta this morning. There was 1 foot of water in the Tussy house in the Oasis Park one block off the river (directly behind Leon's office). 4-5 feet plus in Mike Fleming's house on the river, closer toward the Orchard.

I know you are all very busy with the damage, but, my dad has property by the IceHouse on the Martene Martenez property. Do you have any idea about that area? I would like to know as he is very worried and having open heart surgery tomorrow. Any info will help his mind instead of just guessing. Thank you so much for any information.

Thanks for posting these updates!
We'll be down on Thursday the 28th and were planning on staying at Clementine's.
Should we be looking elsewhere?

Not wanting to pester folks who, I am very certain, are totally busy but, does anyone have any work re: Leon's status at the Oasis? Did the office get flooded out again? His residence? Thanks, Li'l Sis

I talked to Leon yesterday. Everything flooded in the Oasis. I also went down to the Orchard and into one house in the second row. Water was 7 feet deep inside that house. ALL houses in both the Orchard and the Oasis flooded.

For a general guideline, water was about 5-6 feet deep in the Oasis and 8-9 feet deep in the Orchard (measuring from ground level) and was about 6-7 feet deep at the Jungle.

The town has power and water but on the south side of the river there is no water yet. The pipes broke as they cross the river where the small bridge used to be. No estimates on repairs.

Roads in both directions are now open. I saw a bus headed for La Paz an hour ago.

Here is a link to a number of photos of the Mulege flood, taken by Martin Miranda (la Jungla area). Lots of good pics from there, under the bridge (the little overpass under the bridge is toast) and from around town.

We are in Loreto today, headed to Mulege tomorrow to check out the damage. If you would like us to check in on anyone please leave specific location, names, etc, and we will do our best to see how they are faring. We'll report back in on Sunday.
