Our family (from San Francisco Bay Area, CA) was at Naranjo on August 12, 2008, 11:15 p.m. at the time of the explosions. We saw the entire thing from start to finish, photographed and filmed the explosions and fires, and spent a lot of time over the following two days walking the area. We also talked to Mace Perkins, the owner/builder of the new buildings just North of Naranjo. He knew as of August 13, 2008 that it was arson. We saw the propane "bombs" exploding and shooting into the sky. It was a horrible act. I think Mace may know more about the matter.

Has the debris been removed yet. What is it like down there now? Is the new owner building something? I sure hope not. I'm hoping it will be cleaned up and will return to its incredible serenity and beauty. Please let me know.

There is no building of any kind going on. There was a new care taker "Sergio" who took Nacho's place. I saw Nacho in town and he appeared to be in a great deal of pain. He has had several surgeries for his back pain but nothing has worked.

We camped in the middle of where the palapas used to be. It was very surreal walking around looking at the concrete floors, broken glass and charred remains of the vacation homes I had known for years.

Sergio had no knowledge that the beach had been sold and commented that he had tried to connect a potential buyer with Norma.

All that aside, we camped on Punta Arena for our normal three weeks and thoroughly enjoyed it as always. It is still sad to see the destruction, but we plan on camping there every April possible.
