State government has deployed a system named “blindaje” to keep criminals from other parts from coming to Baja California Sur. The measure includes check points in places like airports, seaports and the highway. At these checkpoints you and your vehicle must pass close scrutiny, including the taking of the VIN, fingerprints, identification, etc. The first checkpoint was installed in Pichilingue (La Paz’s seaport) this past December, and a second checkpoint has just started operating in the highway close to San Ignacio. I don’t know if there is any other checkpoints operating already. From what I heard others saying, the passing through the checkpoint is time consuming. I hope it will contribute to relive our worries about security in the area and, in fact, keep criminals out.
Does this mean that they will even catch criminals that have committed crimes in USA? Im sure Baja has numerous criminals from USA due to the proximity of the border.
we just left santa rosalia a few weeks ago and i dont think we were detained or delayed any on the way down by san ignacio and on the way back up was the normal quick look in t he truck. iam all for the extra protection, i just didnt see it yet. hopefully when we go back
In fact, news of the checkpoint were on the paper (El Sudcaliforniano) this past 23 or 24, so my guess is that they just got started. In other forum I read of turists complaining over the delay in the middle of the highway: long lines, slow process, etc.
