We are travelling to Mulege to our new home in Oct. in a gas guzzling motor home. Is it cheaper to fill up in the states at the border or in Mexico? Can you give us an idea of the price of gas in Mexico.
Gas prices in Baja, (Past 20 miles south of the border) are about $2.28 per gallon for August. They are adjusted every month by the government. Usually they go up a little each month, but not always. They are the same all over, except for the border zone. Watch out for the following when gassing up: 1) Make sure the meter is reset to zero before he starts the pump. 2) Always count your change. 3) Don't give the attendant a big bill for a small purchase. 4)Try to estimate how much you think it will take, and if possible tell the attendant how much to put in, (by quantity, not pesos). Not all stations are crooked, but many will try you out if you look and act green. Most of them are a little innacurate on the meter reading, (In their favor of course). The best stations as far as honesty and service, are El Rosario and Viscaino. Remember, there is no station between El Rosario and Guerero Negro, a long ways. DO NOT GAS UP IN SANTA ROSALIA. They are notoriously crooked. Several Baja websites post the prices around the first of every month. If you have a diesel, it is a real bargain, something like $1.80 a gallon.
