When are you traveling that way? I plan on coming up that way around Jan 9th or 10th. I've got a friend who stays in Gonzaga Bay. He said the road thru the sisters- south of Puertocitos is paved and well graded. Then the road from Gonzaga Bay out to Hwy 1 is gravel, and maintained. In Feb 2009 we made that journey and I would not recommend it for an RV. However, like I said, I've heard that it is much improved. I plan on posting an update when I get back to the states in mid-Jan. From the Hwy 1 to Muelge?? Never been that route. Hope that little bit helps.

the route from Tecate to Mulege takes you nowhere near Gonzaga bay. From Tecate to Ensenada the road has been good and is being upgraded I hear. From Ensenada to Mulege, there seems always to be some construction but is generally good, some washboard. Top off fuel every chance after Enseada...Have a good trip. I'll be behind you by a couple of weeks

What to see? I forgot that part. Go into San Ignacio for sure, the old Mission Church is beautiful, as is the town square. The lil general store on the corner of the square is interesting. There is a rstaurant, near the Church which has a parrot, that will call you "Tourista". Lots of desert, lots of rocks...The "Old Mill" has a good RV park Near San Quintin...Mama Espinosas restaurant..Take your time and explore

There's plenty of detailed info on the roads in the Mexican newspapers. The last report, in El Vigia, is that they expect the roads to be passable in 48 hours from Sunday, Jan. 24th. However, this is Mexico, so you can double that. There is also another storm due on Wednesday. Here's a picture of the bridge washout at Vicente Guerrero.

http://elvigia.net/noticia/sol...dp-para-reparaciones

They are trying to fix the collapsed section by building a dirt berm from the North side to the standing part of the bridge. That berm would washout in the next heavy rain.

Ensenada B.C. -- The state government sought 200 million dollars for repairs to the five municipalities, which in the case of Ensenada will be used to rehabilitate as soon as possible the affected road infrastructure, and thus reestablish communication with the south.
Governor Jose Guadalupe Osuna Millan and Mayor Pablo Alejo López Núñez, care work led yesterday to the affected population.
At a press conference reported that the protocol for such contingencies gives full control to the municipalities, especially the Municipal Civil Protection Unit, with the state intervening, Osuna said that despite the more than thousand 600 victims and some areas are disaster areas, it is not necessary that the Mexican Army implementation of Plan DN-III for natural disasters.
However, the Ministry of Defense offered from the outset to work with the City to the south of the municipality, in conjunction with the National Water Commission (CNA), the Ministry of Communications and Transport (SCT), the Navy Department ( Semar) and the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE).
At the moment there are two state government aircraft to transport pantries, medicine, blankets and personnel to perform repairs, also be used at least another air unit of Telefonos del Noroeste (Telnor).
Osuna Millán said the SCT and began work on the road Transpeninsular and the strategy is to open roads to cross streams by means of an embankment.
He said that the bridge structures are not damaged, so he took the stream were the approaches, the bridge connection to the land, and that in the next 48 hours, depending on how lower stream flow could be restored .
The SCT already know the situation and allocate additional resources for these works, but there is a special item for the emergency, which shall be no limit budget.

San Quentin B.C. -- All delegations from the southern municipality of Ensenada were affected by the increased streams that caused floods in different colonies.

Schools, lounges, sports gymnasiums and churches, were approved as temporary shelters after the powerful storm, which destroyed everything in its path.

The damages, which are valued at hundreds of thousands of dollars, highlight the vulnerability of the inhabitants of San Quintin to such storms.

The fall of the edges that enable the bridge is causing shortages of food, fuel and communication, which was suspended on Thursday by heavy rains restored until Friday night.

The water ran very strongly corroded by the banks of streams from the hills and the old bridge structures, causing the roadbed to the water falling down with great intensity of the saw.

From St. Vincent to Camalú delegation, is a stretch of about 60 kilometers, the water rose on the highway, causing flooding to colonies and settlements, as well as mudslides on hills, fallen trees and lampposts, a situation that principle was controlled but is out of control.

Many people watched as their homes were affected, some went to shelters, while others enable their vehicles to guard their assets against possible theft.

Camalú Dozens of families, especially in the colonies Cantarranas and Candelaria, were evacuated as the water reached a height of 1.60 meters in the households affected.

To rescue the families and bring them to shelters, we used a multi-ton truck, pulled by a tractor, not to endanger those who had lost their heritage.

Municipal police, as the delegates were working tirelessly to rescue people, as citizens who used tractors and even a small boat.

Other supporters of the victims with clothing, blankets, mattresses and food, as well as volunteering in the shelters set up in delegations

Only in the delegation were Camalú thousand 600 people who were taken to temporary shelters.

This situation becomes more worrisome when the food, water, and fuel prices start to dwindle, a situation that is occurring, so seek the help of the municipal, state and federal.

The delegation of El Rosario also saw the collapse of the asphalt carpere before accessing the bridge, due to water down from the highlands, affecting the area of El Rosario de Abajo, who is incommunicado.
