Page 1 of this thread, posted by Vaquero, has about 4 pics of the high water. These have been widely posted all over several forums. There are also more on *****s site, some showing damage after water receeded. They appear to be mostly of Jorge's I believe.

"The Fire Dept asks for sturdy ROPES."

Hi again, I've written a letter to try to drum up some donations. If you have any time to forward it to anyone you can think of, ie: big stores, businesses, churches, rich people , etc... Please feel free to edit, copy, repair, steal, or otherwise use it for the greater good of Baja. I'm going for Home Depot, Lowe's, Teva, mosquito magnet, and smart and final. Let me know who you sent it to so as to not copy each other. Thanks again.

Dear Local Business or Organization,
You may have heard about the devestation that Hurricane John caused in Baja. Please excuse the form letter. I am trying to reach as many people as possible.

Can your business please make a donation to help with the relief efforts currently underway.

Here is a link to some recent photos of Mulege, Baja California. Much of the town was under 10 or more feet of water.: http://www.kodakgallery.com/I.jsp?c=8h3gwjn.1k6tnnlf&x=0&y=-1n48r9

Would your business be able to make a contribution? If so let me know what you can give and I will direct you to the organization most able to accept and distribute your donation. I can assure you that you will get confirmation that your gift was received by those who needed it most.

Items currently needed most are:
strong ropes per the fire departments
shoes (particularly river-sandals) and flip- flops and kids shoes
shovels- flat-nose or scoop-type (snow) , & other clean-up implements
bandages & antiseptic
DEET type mosquito repellent
clothing- adults and (most important) children
school supplies
personal hygiene supplies
mosquito netting
cooking equipment
FOOD
water filtration
portable sand/gravel separator
bleach and water purifiers
Tylenol (this will be needed for the mosquito-borne fever, for which other more stomach-irritating fever relief (like aspirin or ibuprophen) will aggravate associated problems)
gas cards for volunteers
cell phones that work in baja
computer help for websites
4x4 vehicles and ATVs
just about anything else.

Here are some quotes:
"WE really could use more VEHICLES to assist in getting supplies across the border"

"Again, the need is water, canned food, flip-flop shoes, and clothes. Medical supplies are also needed."

"The Fire Dept asks for sturdy ROPES."

bedding/Camping Cots/Air Mattresses
Clothing - tho Bruce says for the children we know all sizes are needed - he pointed out that cooler weather is coming.
Shoes/Sneakers
Cooking equipment - Camping Stoves/Pots/Pans/BBQ Utensils
Canned Good/Can Openers"

I thank you so much for reading this. Please forward it to anyone you think might be interested.

Subject: Baja Disaster Help

Hi,

I have property located south of Ensenada on the road to La Bufadora. My property consists of an R.V. Park , bunk houses, rooms, storage, etc.

I can offer lodging for persons traveling to the disaster areas for a few hours or overnight. I can also offer storage for the people who can only come this far as there is a semi-truck in Maneadero ready to take supplies south when the road opens.

These victims have nothing so anything will be appreciated. The following is a suggested list: non-perishable food, SHOES, clothing, bedding, mosquito netting, mosquito spray or lotion for the body, mosquito spray for out side as there could be a problem for dengue fever. Lanterns, flashlights, batteries as there is no electricity and toiletries.

This is opportunity to help our friends, their families and neighbors -- let's be supportive!! Each of us has something to offer!

One of the biggest near term needs will be clothes & bedding. These are soft and compressible. Since packing capacity for trucks will be constrained either by weight or volume, we should be making every pound count. Try packing the fluffy stuff in Space Bags & vacuum out all the air to save space. The bags will be useful there as well.

Lou,

My name is Sharon Tussy. Hank and his son are in Mulege right now and coming home tomorrow with many pictures. They say our house is worse than expected, even with all the descriptions and pictures available on this board. House is standing, contents are a total loss.

Try sending a message to Hank at hjtussy at frontiernet dot net and I'm sure he can give you some details or photos on your place. He probably won't see the message until Monday.

Sharon

Engineer Mike,
If at all possible, would you please send me a copy of the originals in high resolution in your slideshow of 9/6/2006 of hurricane John?

I only need the following as they show my home and initial water level and damage:
pix04_698503371206_0_BG
pix12_648763371206_0_BG
pix17_484883371206_0_BG
pix56_319426371206_0_BG

Our home is the one directly across from the Jungle (white) with the parking structure on one side with a 24' trailer and Bronco underneath (both totaled I'm sure).

Would like to use them with my insurance company to show initial damage. My partner, his wife, my wife and a good friend are presently on their way down in a 4WD hi-lift caravan and should arrive Monday AM to start damage assessment and hopefully be able to salvage the block walls and strip out all the wood and furniture.

Thanks for any assistance in this.

For all those who want help, information of people, needs or property, or permits to bring relieves; please check this link which happens to be the ONLY OFFICIAL FROM THE STATE AND MUNICIPAL GOVERNMENT.

www.bahiasdebaja.com/Huracan/John.asp

Very truly yours,

Gobierno del Estado en representación

Bahias de Baja

ALSO VERY IMPORTANT:

THERE HAVE BEEN FUNDS PROVIDED TO CITIZENS. THIS IS A VERY DELICATE SITUATION, WE NEED TO KNOW WHERE ARE THEY???? AND WHAT DESTINATION THEY WILL HAVE.

IN ORDER TO AVOID THIS, PLEASE MAKE MONEY DEPOSITS TO NGO’S OR PEOPLE OF YOUR COMPLETELY TRUST

IMPORTANT :The Mexican Government has a well established disaster response effort in place throughout the country, with the coordination between Federal and local, and the assistance between States, impressive.
Sept 12, 200 stoves were delivered to the town to allow people to begin to become self-sufficient more quickly. Since the disaster, over 900 meals a day are served to residents. These types of relief are available to the American residents as well. It is important to be understood that Mexican services are available EQUALLY to American residents. (Note: these are not available to tourists without property here).
It is not clearly understood by some of the Americans here that there is NO DIFFERENTIATION made between needy recipients. Americans and Mexicans are EQUALLY entitled to government assistance, provided, of course that they are here legally and are registered as required by law, with FM3 and property title or legal rental documents.
There is a lack of info on what the American victims need, and who they are, for that matter. In order to qualify for aid, they must register with the Procurador Lic. Sergio Villareal Nogales 1 block from the Post Office. They must present themselves with whatever papers they have of residency or ownership. This process is extremely important to get an accurate assessment of total needs of the ENTIRE community, to distribute benefits equitably. He will provide written certification of their eligibility as "INDEMNIFICADOS". Without this paper, they are ineligible.
We will try to coordinate translation services for insurance policies. Those whose insurance covers their loss will not receive duplicate government aid ALSO. It is either /or, to allow greater coverage of benefits, and avoid double dipping. The greater likelihood is that Americans have NEITHER insurance, NOR register for available indemnification.
It is not that the Government has an intent of ignoring the American residents needs. These people NEED TO REGISTER as soon as possible. PASS THE WORD.

Also, OFFICIAL Govt info is on http://www.bahiasdebaja.com
Much other info is rumor and not official

There is no separate donation distribution for Americans and Mexicans. ALL clothes etc and other aid goes through the Mulege Fire Department. If you donate to other pass thru channels - individuals, Rotary, etc. make sure the funds go through the established channels.

RESIDENT Americans eating in restaurants - be careful the food is not local origin. Meat, chicken, etc from flood areas can carry SERIOUS disease.

Translation services for insured individuals will be noted on the site above.

Dan brings up an interesting point- while in Mulege over the weekend we heard that at least one tienda was shut down by the Municipality for offering refrozen meat and/or poultry that came out of a flooded freezer. Story was some of that stuff had reached ambient temperature (call it 80 degrees) which allows rapid growth of pathogens like salmonella. Can't vouch for the reality, but the potential is there ('course there are no false rumors circulating in Baja!! Roll Eyes) Excercise caution where you shop.

Revised Address to Register as a person/family affected by the flood:

Americans, Canadians, Mexicans & others with losses need to make a formal statement to authorities.(in Spanish- translation is avail) to qualify for subsequent assistance.

Can be very simple:
"I am_ . I own the prop at __________. (bring proof if avail)
I lost the house & THESE POSSESSIONS:___________________________
The local official Agent is Lic.Maria Isela Nunez Marquez
location is now at Ministerio Publico on the Main St across from Pemex Station in town. You will get a stamped certificate REGISTERING that you were here and lost property. This will be the only “proof” that will be considered in the future for any future relief emanating from Fed Gov in Mx City.
