I had it pretty easy this week. Most of my information came to me while I was doing "research" at the Pelican Reef Bar & Grill!! Actually, I could just about put every fisherman's name I know in this area and say they went out and scored, mainly on dorado but also on cabrilla. The result wouldn't be too far from the truth either. For instance, Gene Lee, who was mentioned last week as having scored on dorado did it again this week. According to "very credible" reports, Gene bagged five on one trip this week. Gary Bendix from down in the Bay also scored during a couple of trips, and on a variety of fish. Gary rarely brings in only one type of fish. This time of the year he's usually good for some dorado, a cabrilla or three and maybe even a roosterfish or sierra which are starting to hang out near Pt. Concepcion, Santa Domingo beach and the southwest corner of Santa Inez.

Marty Robison nabbed some more dorado during the week, some in the mid-20's but his real love is to troll MirrOlures for cabrilla. I ran into him this week off the north island at Santa Inez. I had been harassing the dorado farther out and he and some friends got a little later start and were working the reefs for dorado. I watched them pull in 3-4 really nice ones in the short time they had available that day. Marty had to return early to get his friends to the airport at Loreto but he wanted to show me his new "secret" spot. After he did, I reminded him that my daughter had pulled an 80 lb. grouper from that area on her birthday four years ago. So much for a "secret" spot!!!

Dennis Smythe and his buddy Gary have also been scoring on dorado and cabrilla although the trips have been fewer than they would have liked. Gary is working on getting his boat back in working order after having stored it for a couple of months. The two Gary's from my park- Gary Green and Gary MacFarland- took a trip with Capt. Alejandro and came back with a full ice chest of dorado and cabrilla. Everyone has been going out about 20 miles on a 60 from Mulege to find the fish. There are some paddies out there and the water is now in the very upper 70's. We've been having some great weather also. Temperatures have been in the low 90's with a light breeze to make it really tropical. Many of the other guys here... John Dinning, "Tecate" Jon Meyer and others are tuning up for the San Marcos yellowtail shootout this week. Mike will fill you in next week I'm sure.

Speaking of the Gary's... they, Peter Clarke (also from our park) and I are taking a mid-week excursion to San Sebastian and Isla San Ildefonso next week (this week as you read this). I'll give you a report next week but, until then, I'm packing the Bronco for a local trip tomorrow and then for Ildefonso. Sea ya next week.
