We're tracking the photos, and it doesn't look good. Anyone know specifically how wiped out Leon Nolet's "Oasis" is? We've got (had?) a house right on the river there. Any photos of the park would really be appreciated. We're sending blessings to all you hard working rescuers. Hope no humans were harmed.

My dad, Martie Robison and his wife also have a trailer on the river there at Apartado #10 in Leon's park and I am trying to find out what the road conditions are as they are planning to drive down on Thursday but I am concerned about fuel, roads and supplies. My dad's place is right on the river about 4 lots north of Jim's restaurant. Based on the information we are getting right now, it does not sound good for the people of Mulege. I am also concerned for some friends of theirs that arrived last week, Tom & Patti Higgenbothim. If anyone can pass along information that they are ok and what the roads are like north of Mulege I would greatly appreciate it. God bless.

I was wondering if you guys could tell me what other forum people are using to check in... We are looking for David & Suzy Ruiz. They are family members that were visiting a vacation home that is completely underwater right now! We havn't heard from them yet nor have we seen anything about them. We are very concerned and would greatly appreciate any response.

Just heard some news from a friend in Mulege, things are not good for the town. They say if you have seen the pictures in the laundry mat there it is worse than that. The town has no gas and food is running out if it hasn't already. The roads, are passible but are not good from Guerro Negro. Vehicle only, no Rvs! They also say that you will need to have your own gas with you to be able to make the trip.No guarentees ON ANYTHING! Hopefully this helps you decide weither to make the trip. Also anything you can take to help others in the community would be appreciated greatly ie: food water, clothing essentials basically. We too are very concerned about friends and our places there, feeling helpless when you know what you would like to be doing. Bye for now. Gwen

This is Todd in Miami. Today is 9/5/06. I talked to Dustin briefly today on my cellphone. He was able to use SKYPE, but it was terrible reception. He and Lili are o.k., but he indicated everything was lost. He wanted to convey the message to all of his friends in the U.S. that he and Lili were fine, but it is an ugly scene in Mulege. Presently there is no water, electricity, internet, etc.... Our phone call got disconnected when he was telling me where he is presently staying; however, Bombero Jimmy told me Dustin and Lili were at the Palapa at Los Naranjos. Apparently Los Naranjos did not receive too much damage. If anybody heres anything else, post a message or send me an email.

Word as of 10pm CA time, from Rafael who spent the day cleaning up in Oasis-
Road access to Oasis is possible on road in past Beto's if lotsa chassis clearance; mud is ~8" deep for a way & getting deeper w/use; "20 foot hole" reported earlier was probably the width of muddy puddle looking like a hole. Phones on Oasis side of river still out. Fish cleaning station, rock wall along river & all boat docks MIA. Clubhouse trashed heavily. DeRemer lot- water depth about 10 feet. Landgraf trailer moved & had water perhaps to the roof; hard to get into it as it is leaning against palapa posts. Tussy home had several feet of water in house; car under water; not sure about boat. Cliff's house- water to the loft level inside. Cliff's B&B- water to ceiling or maybe above. Cliff's riverfront house- bad news except for Cliff's clean up crew. Dudley Young trailer moved & water high inside; both metal sheds MIA; boat moved but probably OK if motor overhauled for H2O & mud. Dustin's motorhome- water up to ceiling inside. Collier house- water above the tops of windows; 2' of mud inside. Bull & Judy Halvig, Gene Lee- as posted elsewhere. Leon was in his office & crawled out (perhaps to roof) till a.m. rescue by boat. Jim & Annie Christopher- bad damage on river side; much water in house. Word about town @ this hour is only one death- Peter Clark as reported elsewhere. No Gringo Tacos this week. |

Barry,
You can Donate Here, or get ahold of Hank & Judy Tussy who are organizing donations in kind in Rio Vista. The ICF donation link is money only, but there may be drop off addresses announced in various places once delivery volunteers come forward. Apparently many escapees swam out w/no shoes or what shoes they were able to grab are now ruined, and working in the mud with cut up feet is no bueno. River sandals would be greatly appreciated. BajaQuest could put up a page with links, in fact that would be great if you could do a clearinghouse sort of page with everybody's links. I see a donation process out of Vegas, a mail delivery address in Calexico (that desperately needs at least a phone & email contact), stuff happening on baja*****.com, & the Manhattan Beach Sister City Org mobilizing so help is sprouting up. It would be fabulous to get some coordination to it thru a central portal. |

Barry-
You can Donate by Clicking Here, or keep an eye out for postings on where to donate in kind. One thing that would be great is to put up a web page w/all the links for news, donations, etc. (sort of a clearinghouse spot). I see folks in Vegas setting up for donations, Manhattan Beach Sister City Org handling purchase & organizing delivery of stuff, snail mail address in Calexico (that desperately needs email & phone for efficiency), and there will no doubt be announcements on drop off points for in-kind donations of clothes & shoes, etc. There is another forum (the attempted posting of which here irritatingly sidelines my message) with a lotta traffic and some good mobilization. I can get you started with links; email me at mike at fleming dot cc and I'll reply with what I've got so far. |
