If you're coming down Baja be sure to get your tourist card BEFORE you get south of the border... if you travel more than 100 kilometers south of the U.S. border and then try to get it there are HUGE fines now. I always got it at the Guerrero (Baja Sur) border or Santa Rosalia, and this year cost us about $75 per person in fines when the bank/stamp was applied. Save yourself a chunk of change, get it either in Ensenada or Tecate or Tijuana, if not before you leave home.
Thank you for your timely post. You just saved me a bundle.

i had the same experience recently. was always told by the guy at guerro negro tht it was ok to get them there. i have a fm -2 but have friends down all the time. hit my friends with fines once there. also my brother stopped t t.j. crossing, was told if tourist doesnt stsy more than 7 days, tourist card is free of charge. he actually wasnt charged for a quick trip. anyone else experience this??
Does anyone know if you can re-use the card for multiple trips? I still have my stub from a trip in September and it says it's valid for 180 days. Just wasn't sure if it's only for one trip up to 180 days or for multiple trips during that time.

Far's i know, if your card is still valid for the 180 day period, yes it's still valid. I DO NOT know how long you have to wait (2 weeks come to mind) before you can re-apply for more time..... b.b.
i have been told by immigration that the tourist card is valid for 180 days if you stay that long. the second you leave the country the card becomes invalid and you need to "buy " another one. i know people who because there is no record of you leaving use the same card for the 6 months.
Sure they want the extra income... but it has been stated numerous times since they began taking the $20+ fee in 2000, that since it is so costly to travel in Mexico now, the card IS reusable up to 180 days. Discover Baja Travel Club affirms this with a recent publishing of where to send in your FM-T before it expires, as there is no mechanism to collect cards from tourists leaving Mexico.
