I used to go down and camp on the beach in Punta Chivato twice a year (May and October) for about 10 years. But the last time I was down there was 2002. I plan to do it again leaving in early October. This time I am bringing a 27foot RV and my truck pulling my 18' boat.
I am hearing bits and pieces about damage from Julio hurricane and I would feel a lot better if I could find out some things:
1. Is the road to the beach on the point past the hotel good enough to get a 27' motorhome to the beach? The truck is a 4WD, so I am not so concerned about it.
2. I heard that the water/showers to the beach are no more.. Is that true? I can live without the pit toilets and the palapa's , but the fresh water showers is what distinguished this beach from the others.
3. Is the boat launch next to the hotel still there and usable? Is the water hose for engine flush still there?
4. I see postings about the beach not being safe??? I used to feel more safe on that beach than at home. We left everything out, never locked anything and never lost a thing. Please tell me that Mulege hasn't turned into a little Tijuana?

Hey, if anyone has any info on Punta Chivato I'd really appreciate it. I've been going down there for 11 years, but missed last year.
I'm just curious if it is open? How deep is the sand on the beach? Is anyone else camping there? Is it really dangerous?
I actually like dry camping and less people...but not being by myself.
I'm bummed to hear what's happened to Baja in the past two years. I hope this isn't my last trip
