just got back from 1st trip ever driving down, came from phx to calexico, to san felipe, down to puertecito, down the washboard rd to hyw1 took my 1996 chevy 1ton 4x4,w/cab over camper pop up, roads were good, no rain, the wash board rds could drive 5-10mph,, the hot springs in puertecito was nice, people say lady charges 10.00us each person, 10, car,,, varies,, we did not pay,, there is a small motel there 65.00us four people a night, theres a gas station, and a small minimart ,,, not much else,,left about 1pm-- from hotsprings headed south drove 40miles found a place called punta bufeo,, spent night on the beach,, got to bufeo at dark 4hrs drive,, theres a bill board sign cant miss it,, not much there, an air strip, motel, few houses private res. and nothing else,, i felt safe sleeping on the beach,, next am left bufeo to gonzaga, got gas there,,and there is a mini mkt, clean bathrooms, take tp!!! that was the worst part of the road, rocks were the largest from tennis ball size to soft ball size in some places,, that was 10miles, took 3hrs, slow drive 5-10mph, there are some sandy roads that run along the rocky wash board,,, they are pretty good, i took alot of them, i could drive 15-20mph on some of them,, from gonzaga to laguna chapala, dry lake, or 1 hywy,, was 40miles took 3 3/4 hrs,, total time took 13 3/4 hrs, 140miles from san felipe to 1hywy,, I felt safe, i drove it alone as a female 47yrs old,,, on way home i drove the hwy1 to ensenada, was 625miles longer, 2hrs less drive time, but the curves, hills, narrow roads, id opt to drive the dirt wash board back,,, to get back to phx,, can sleep on roads, lots of pull outs to beach side to sleep, camp, and the roads were good enough not use the 4x4, though might need if it was a bad storm,, then the drive to guerrero negro, was 2 3/4hrs from the dirt/hwy1 meet 110miles, the ck point only asked if fruits?? say no, and on our way, not spray, not ask for turist card, just kept going,, drive to santa rosalia was 3hrs, santa rosalia to mulege 3/4 hr,, i drove past mulege, 20min down, to playa santispac -- was a cove could see from the top of the curve/hill, see this clear blue/green waters, cove, boats/campers there,,, great photo from top if theres no cars coming,,, and going there was the beach of all beaches,,, was no waves, calm, clear, was 80.pesos a night, have bathroom, no showers, no electric, some palapa, some slabs, some have nothing, you park and camp, sunset/rise are pretty,, many friendly campers there ,there 8weeks when i was there over xmas school break,, then turned for home,, i only had a blow out, took 2 1/2 hrs to change on side of road, but all went well, cant wait to do the drive in may 29 2010, till end of july, where i'll be in cabo san lucas/la paz, has great places ive camped at,, if your interest in photos, info, or want to go!! love to have a happy camper travel with,,contace alex -- alexgarreton@hotmail.com
