Haven't seen too much on the continuing needs of the people in Mulege. Still need clothes, household items, pet supplies, etc.? If someone would be kind enough to post ever so often as to continuing needs, arising needs, etc. it would be helpful to those collecting items to send/bring. Thank you for your consideration. Lynnette

Lynnette- We're taking a load down on the 6th consisting of small kid clothes, kids school supplies, and books to start restocking the libraries that were wiped out. The second 2 are the only things I know for sure are really needed still. Adult & larger kid's clothing needs have been met.

I am a school teacher here in Tahoe and may have access to text/ workbooks etc that the district is surplusing. Would these be helpful there in Mulege or Palos verdes?

Married to a Mexican school teacher and having children in primary, secondary and high school their text books are easily replaced by the Govt. and of course in Spanish. One import item would be writing tools (pens, pencils both standard and colors and chalk) and blank lined and unlined. In most cases they would be bought by their parents for their children. You might want to have a local check with the schools in the area.

Thank you for your kind offer,

Dave

We're taking enough baby clothes for about 10 boys 25 girls. Don't know why the sex ratio of donations is skewed; maybe more boys go commando?

Hank & Tussy....we live in Groveland, CA and the best way to get these items to you would be UPS? Does Mulege have a zip code or anything?
I can have items on the way by next week if UPS is the way to do it. Thanks Nancy

h2opr8- UPS doesn't deliver to Mulege that I know of, but DHL does & reliably. Address, I believe, would be:
Enrique Tussy
Parque Oasis Rio Baja #M-3
H.Mulege, Baja California Sur
Mexico, 23900
615.153.0167
615.153.0360

Hank- Check this w/Leon first & confirm or the stuff may get lost. I don't know if there is a road name, maybe Carraterra, but Leon will know. And remember that spelling counts on this. I used Leon's number as an alternate (2nd one). Phones are not working now but may be by the time a package gets there.

Hank, I've also asked engineermike the same question...should I send title to RV on down? and make out some kind of donation letter? Dan pulled up approx values on airstreams and i sent on to you for tax writeoff purposes..you pick a figure. Our neighbors the Landsgrafs have been wonderful in getting things cleaned etc...we want to keep the kayaks, fishing gear, hammock, Beverly Doolittle print screwed to wall in kitchen as well as a small postcard sized print of a ferry boat...but the generator that the Landsgrafs got cleaned up can be a conation to teh scholarship also, the bikes too.
Hope any / all of this can help. We have a "new" used diesel motorhome and will set out in it in December upon return from MidEast...maybe go to Guaymas and then ferry over in car leaving motorhome in Guaymas till things straightened up....sad, but we all must move on!!! thanks, LOU MONK

Mike-another idea about items for Mulege. The cost from here is extraordinary. It may be easier and cheaper to ship to someone in USA going to Mulege soon. Know anyone? Also although we are moving to Mulege in March we still haven't found a place for sale to buy..could you pass the word? Thanks Nancy

Nancy- We are accepting donations for the libraries at this time. Books need to be in spanish tho a few spanish-english dictionaries would be useful. You can ship to:
Mike Fleming
11860 Kemper Road #3
Auburn, CA 95603
530.823.6917

I'm hearing cries of uncle on clothing donations except for winter clothes and baby clothes. We hope to make a dent in the latter on out trip down this week due to Church of Latter Day Saints at Lake of the Pines, northern CA- Thanks Saints! The book stock at the libraries tho needs so much work that we'll be on that for a long time. You can go to Amazon.com, click on the Wedding Registry (cuz I'm sort of married to this project?), and put in Mike Fleming as the person getting married. It should come up with the list for the "Baja Library Project." Any of the books there are fair game. You can also get great books off eBay by searching for books in spanish or using the spanish spelling of shat you want in the title (e.g. "diccionario"). The above address is preprogrammed in the Amazon registry, and can be used for books off eBay also.
Thanks for any/everthing. The library project includes augmenting the instruction kids get in library usage starting with the primary grades, so this truly is a long term project, but the rebuilding of the washed out libraries is serously important right now. Thanks a million. Mike

Thanks to everyone's help in getting my donations to Mulege. I've spoke to Mike Fleming but will miss his trip this week but if my second plan of bringing the stuff with Lynnette Downey doesn't work out I'll ship to him for one of his next trips. I'm looking forward to meeting with you volunteers and maybe looking at a few casas while there. You folks are great and in my heart. Nancy

Hola! I'm one of Shirley & Bill Glasby's kids (long-time Mulege residents), and a co-founder of an "international disaster relief" nonprofit, Rebuilding Community International. Our focus is "sustainable redevelopment," which means we provide volunteer building professionals to help restore structures, build self-sufficiency, and create an improving quality of life.

Please, can someone tell me about reconstruction/redevelopment needs in Mulege (or the surrounding area)? If there are needs to "build back better," are there currently nonprofits in the area spearheading reconstruction activities. You can write me offline at jwoodruff@rebuildingcommunity.org.

Thanks for any information.

Hola....I'm sending some relief suppies to Mulege via a friend - Mike Fleming is having it left at the school, however, he also mentioned that it is still unclear what the people of the ranchos may need...the children are left at school all week..maybe they could be given an assignment to bring back to the school on Monday what each family still needs...then we could get it to them if anything.
